355mL | Stout | <0.5% ABV

Roasted barley, baker's cocoa, cold espresso, and a creamy nitrogen-infused pour. A traditional Irish dry stout crafted for sessionable, clear-headed pub rituals.

Brewed in Ontario by Harmon's Craft Brewing, Dempsey's Non-Alcoholic Stout pays direct homage to Irish brewing tradition. Named after brewmaster Rob Doyle’s maternal grandmother and inspired by his roots near County Wexford's historic Hook Head Lighthouse, this seasonal release captures the hallmark roasty bite and velvety texture of an authentic Dublin-style dry stout without the alcohol.

Engineered with a nitrogen infusion, Dempsey's delivers a signature cascading pour that resolves into a dense, creamy tan head. Sitting at less than 0.5% ABV (70 calories and 16g carbohydrates per 355ml can), it balances deep roasted barley bitterness and unsweetened chocolate against a light-to-medium dry body, completely free from the cloying sweetness common in malt beverage substitutes.

Jet-black pour, dark roast espresso and cocoa aromas, dry roasty core, and a creamy nitro head—<0.5% ABV, 70 cal, crafted in Ontario.

TASTING NOTES

The Appearance: Opaque jet-black with garnet highlights and a thick, creamy tan foam head built by its nitro infusion.

The Aroma: Classic Irish pub aromatics. Opens with notes of dark roasted malt, fresh espresso grinds, and dusty baker's chocolate, framed by faint toasted bread crust.

The Palate: Light-to-medium bodied, crisp, and exceptionally dry. Upfront flavors of dark roast barley and dark cacao lead the entry, balanced by subtle earthy hop bitterness and a velvety micro-bubble mouthfeel.

The Finish: Clean, brisk, and roasty, leaving a dry cocoa and espresso bitterness on the back palate that begs for another pull.

PAIRS WITH

Irish Pub Classics: Outstanding paired with shepherd's pie, bangers and mash, corned beef, or traditional Irish stew.

Comforting Savory Fare: Exceptional alongside grilled smash burgers, caramelized French onion soup, or roasted root vegetable pot pie.

Oysters & Seafood: The quintessential classic pairing—briny raw oysters on the half shell with fresh lemon, where the stout's dry roast highlights marine sweetness.

Frequently Asked Questions — Harmon's - Dempsey's Stout

Expert answers to common questions about non-alcoholic options, ingredients, and delivery across Canada.

Are all non-alcoholic beers gluten-free?

Not all are. While we carry many gluten-free and gluten-removed beers, please check the 'Dietary Needs' section under 'Gluten Free' or look for the 'Gluten Free' badge on each product page.

Why should I buy craft non-alcoholic beer instead of commercial grocery store brands?

Our curated Canadian craft selection utilizes advanced de-alcoholization and traditional small-batch brewing methods, preserving the complex flavor profiles, hops, and body that mass-market brands strip away.

Is 0.5% really alcohol-free?

In Canada, any product containing less than 1.1% alcohol-by-volume (ABV) is considered alcohol-free because our body metabolizes that amount of alcohol faster than we can feel any effect.

More commonly world-wide, any product containing 0.5% ABV or less is considered alcohol-free.

Fun fact: many foods have some level of ABV due to their natural fermentation. Kombucha, breads made with yeast, overripe bananas, fruit juice, yogurt, soy sauces & vinegars can range from 0.2% ABV up to 1.2% ABV.

Can you get drunk from a 0.5% drink?

No, no matter how many drinks you might have at 0.5% ABV or less.

It’s almost impossible (rare health conditions do exist) for your blood alcohol content to reach 0.04% drinking these beverages. The main reason why your blood alcohol content can’t build up to a level that makes you feel drunk is because your body processes the alcohol in a <1.1% ABV beverage almost as quickly as you drink it.

The Craft Stout Architecture

  • Traditional Irish Dry Profile: Formulated to mimic classic dry stouts rather than heavy milk stouts or sweet pastry ales, keeping residual sugars minimal and drinkability high.
  • Nitro Infusion: Conditioned with nitrogen to provide micro-fine effervescence, a cascading pour, and a pillowy foam cap that softens roast astringency.
  • Dedicated Non-Alcoholic Fermentation: Crafted from the ground up using specialized brewing techniques to develop roasted depth while naturally staying under 0.5% ABV.
  • Vegan & Calorie-Conscious: Certified vegan formulation delivering a satisfying dark beer experience at just 70 calories per 355ml can.

Pro-Tip: Treat Dempsey's like any nitro-conditioned pub draught. Do not pour gently down the side of the glass; pour it boldly and upright straight down the center. Agitating the nitrogen creates the signature micro-foam cap, giving you the authentic Dublin pub mouthfeel right at home.
