Frequently Asked Questions — Gnista Spirits - Barreled Oak

Expert answers to common questions about non-alcoholic options, ingredients, and delivery across Canada.

What is a non-alcoholic apéritif?

A non-alcoholic apéritif is a bitter, botanical-forward drink crafted to stimulate the appetite and kickstart conversation before a meal. Made by extracting pure botanicals like bitter gentian, citrus peel, rosemary, and fig, it delivers a complex balance of bitter, bright, and herbal notes without any alcohol or artificial ingredients.

How do you serve a non-alcoholic apéritif?

Non-alcoholic apéritifs shine when mixed simply with bubbles. Pour 1 part apéritif over fresh ice and top with 2 to 3 parts sparkling water, club soda, or premium tonic water. Garnish with a fresh citrus twist (like orange or grapefruit) or a fresh sprig of herbs for a crisp, refreshing spritz.

How do I use non-alcoholic spirits in cocktails?

Non-alcoholic spirits are designed to be used in a 1:1 ratio as you would with traditional spirits. Check out our 'Recipes' section on the blog for inspiration, or browse our curated 'Cocktail Kits' which come with everything you need to build the perfect drink.

Do I need to refrigerate these products after opening?

Most non-alcoholic spirits and wines should be refrigerated after opening to maintain freshness. Always check the specific bottle label for storage recommendations, as some functional beverages or RTDs are best served chilled.

What is the difference between '0.0% ABV' and 'Non-Alcoholic?

Products labeled 0.0% ABV contain absolutely no alcohol. Some products labeled 'non-alcoholic' may contain trace amounts of alcohol (less than 0.5% ABV), which is similar to the levels found in ripe fruit or fruit juice.

Gnista Barreled Oak and Floral Wormwood zero-proof spirits display

Gnista Spirits - Barreled Oak

The Gnista spirits are best described as complex and intense non-alcoholic drinks that resembles fine spirits. Just like any spirits they can be sipped neat as well as used as a base for no/low alcoholic cocktails (mocktails). Gnista has been made possible through a unique combination of gastronomy, food tech and classic spirit making techniques, where distillation, brewing and barrel aging are central. It’s crafted by hand and in small batches in Skåne, Sweden.
Floral Wormwood is bitter and intense (to replace a vermouth); Barreled Oak is smokey and with much tannins from oak (to replace a whisky/rum); and Pink Ginista is our version of a Pink Gin - to be served neat ice cold or over a tonic.
